Book: Spy School: Secret Service

Author: Stuart Gibbs

Age Range: 8-13

Official Summary:

Thirteen-year-old Ben Ripley has had a lot of field success despite only just beginning his second year at Spy School, something graduates rarely experience. But he’d never have survived without the help from experienced agents and his friends.

Now he’s been called in on a solo mission—and the fate of the United States of America is on his shoulders alone.

The Mission: Prevent a presidential assassination by infiltrating the White House, and locating the enemy operative. But when the president’s son is as helpful as a hamster, and a trained SPYDER agent would never appear to be up to something (they’re far too clever for that), Ben may be in over his head this time.

And when everything goes wrong, Ben must rely on his Spy School friends to save his reputation…but even friends can double-cross or be swayed to the enemy’s side.

What I thought:

This one was great. Stuart Gibbs wrote another amazing book! The CIA (or Cyrus) has activated Ben again, to stop a presidential assassination. This mission is solo, the hardest he has been on so far, and when things go competently wrong, can Ben figure out the plot, and have his friends help save him? Or will one of them be a secret SPYDER agent?

In my opinion, this is the best book in the series so far. I have been waiting for so long for Ben to finally go on a solo mission, and here it is. I absolutely loved how nothing went as expected, and the plot twist at the end was amazing. The different setting and mini plots flowed nicely thought the whole book. I also like how Stuart Gibbs answered most of our questions. You will get to know why Erica is like she is, and YOUR QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED.

The only thing I didn't like was how the mole was revealed. There just wasn't that usual finesse to it. When we found out who the mole was, it seemed a bit rushed. There is no inappropriate content, and like every other book, this is for all ages. I highly recommend the series if you haven't read it yet. I won't be updating this weekend because I'm going to Houston to see a Taylor Swift concert, but next weekend I will be posting the first chapter of my Spy School Fan fiction.
