Book: Evil Spy School

Author: Stuart Gibbs

Age Range: 8-13

Official Summary:

During a spy school game of Capture the Flag, twelve-year-old Ben Ripley somehow accidentally shoots a live mortar into the principal’s office—and immediately gets himself expelled. Not long after going back to the boring old real world, Ben gets recruited by evil crime organization SPYDER.

And he accepts.

As a new student in SPYDER’s evil spy school, which trains kids to become bad guys with classes like Counter Counterespionage and Laying Low 101, Ben does some secret spying of his own. He’s acting as unofficial undercover agent, and it becomes quickly apparent that SPYDER is planning something very big—and very evil.

Ben can tell he’s a key part of the plan, but he’s not quite sure what the plan is. Can Ben figure out what SPYDER is up to—and get word to the good guys without getting caught—before it’s too late?

What I think:

Oh, Ben. First you get yourself kicked out of school. Then you join the dark side, pretending to be a bad guy, spying for the good guys, when they don't even know where you are. Just great. Then he tries to spy on SPYDER, proving how hard that is. No computer, no internet, no going outside the headquarters, no communication with the world, nothing. After things take a couple of crazy, unimaginable turns, will Ben be able to stop SPYDER?

This is another great book by Stuart Gibbs. He keeps the classic neerdiness and comedy, while adding more characters into the mix. I especially like Ashley Sparks, and all her "I stuck that landing!" moments. I also thought Murray was as classic as ever. And, oh my, did Ben just make some progress with Erica?

Like all the books in the series, this book can be for all ages, even though the age range says 8-13. There is no inappropriate content at all, so nothing to worry about. Make sure you read this book, it's great!
